Financial Information

2009-2010 School Year

 

Metro-East Lutheran High School is owned and operated by the Metro-East Lutheran High School Association, an association of Lutheran congregations whose purpose is to provide secondary Christian education for the young people of their congregations and the community.  The following congregations are members of the association:

St. James, Glen Carbon

St. John, Maryville

St. Paul, Hamel*

St. Peter, Prairietown*

* Designates association congregations with Lutheran elementary schools

 

The following are Lutheran churches in the general area of Metro-East Lutheran which are not part of the high school association but have elementary schools:

Funding for Metro-East Lutheran High School is provided by tuition and fees, association congregation support, gifts from parents and friends of MELHS, fund raising activities (Night of Knights Auction, craft fairs, etc.), and athletic support.

 

Volunteers provide two critical supports for the school.  It helps to contain costs and provides and supports a sense of community.

 

The Board of Directors of Metro-East Lutheran High School establishes fees and tuition rates for each academic year.

The family billing for a second child is discounted to 70% of the rate for the first child.  Any additional children in a family (3 and above) are discounted to 50% of the rate for the first child.  

 

Tuition is due by the fifteenth (15th) day of each month and will be billed on a ten (10) month schedule.  Families who elect to pay their tuition on a 12-month, semester or annual schedule are to advise the principal before June 1 of each year.

 

Tuition and fees must be paid prior to August of each year for a student to be re-admitted for the new school year.

Others fees made be incurred in Accounting Class, Introduction to Business, and Honors English 12.

 

TUITION ASSISTANCE

 

Who is eligible - Any student who has demonstrated financial need.

 

When to apply - Applications must be submitted before May 1 of each year. Application must be made for each school year.

 

How to apply - Application forms are available in the school office.  Completed forms and the required documents are to be submitted to the principal’s office.  Applicants will be notified of grant approval by mail.

 

What is considered - Family income, number of children in the family, single parent homes, unusual medical expenses and other special circumstances.

 

Additional Financial Resources - Some students have other resources for obtaining financial assistance.   These may include church scholarships, gifts from family and friends, part-time jobs, and other sponsors.

 

SCHOLARSHIPS

 

Metro-East Lutheran High School was established to serve the children and families of area Lutheran congregations and all interested families who value the Christian education program offered by the school.  A number of scholarships are available to assist families who cannot enroll their children without financial assistance.  Scholarships are generated by gifts and memorials.  Awards at Metro-East Lutheran High School are made annually and are determined on the basis of three criteria.  Students nominated and selected exhibit a Christian lifestyle and appreciation for the opportunities offered at MELHS, apply their God-given abilities as reflected in diligent work, and are in need of financial assistance.  The following scholarships are available at this time.   Additional scholarships are added as funds become available.
