Business Curriculum

Accounting

Prerequisites: Computer Applications

Grades: 10-12

Length: Full Year

 

Accounting develops skill in the basic accounting cycle that is analyzed to determine the health of a business.  This includes journalizing, posting to a ledger, adjusting and closing entries, and preparing financial statements.  Double entry bookkeeping is taught, enabling the student to apply basic accounting skills necessary for personal and/or professional use.  

 

Special Materials:  Notebook for returned papers, Fee for Accounting Work Papers

 

Computer Applications

Prerequisites: Must possess basic keyboarding skills

Grade: 9

Length: Semester

 

This course will emphasize the use of Microsoft Office 2007 software.  The course will introduce students to Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.  The integration of the general application software will enable students to create documents by importing sections from any other Office documents.  Students will be taught to use self-tutorial textbooks to encourage self-teaching of future software upgrades to the Microsoft Office Suite.  This is a dual credit class through Lewis & Clark Community College.

Introduction to Business

Prerequisites: Computer Applications, Department Approval

Grades: 10-12

 

This course is designed for students interested in learning more about the business world, particularly the ownership and operation of a small business, through a variety of hands-on activities.  Extensive use of computer technology is a major component of this course.
